Todorov's Theory Example

Todorov's Theory for After Earth
1.State of equilibrium:
Father returns home and takes his son away on a mission to have some bonding time

2.Disruption by event:
An Asteroid storm hits the spacecraft causing them to crash-land on Earth, which is uninhabitable.

3.Recognition of disruption:
The spacecraft is split in half, killing everyone on board but father and son. Fathers legs are both badly broken and is very unwell.

4.Attempt to repair damage:
The son has to trek across the dangerous terrains to the tail of the spacecraft to retrieve a honing beacon to signal for help, avoiding the deadly aliens who threatened the survival of humankind.

5.A return or reformation of a new equilibrium:
The son kills the last remaining alien and gains the 'ghosting' ability of which his father is famous for. He finds the honing beacon and signals home. A rescue team come and the father and son return home safely to the wife/mother

  1. Todorov’s Theory:
WWW: Applied the theory to a film of your choice, with all the various stages clearly identified and explained.
EBI: You had explained the theory in your own words. This would show a closer understanding of the theory.
