Male Character Planning

This was our first option for the main male character, Michael Cason. This is because he is older than all of our female actresses. He is grown up and mature, something which we want our male character to be as he has just lost his child. Therefore he must also be caring and gentle. The female audience will be attracted to him which will intrigue them to watch more. The male audience will also like him as Michael enjoys gym and playing football, therefore they will relate to him. Michael works everyday up London therefore it would be very hard to schedule days to film with him as he is so busy.

 Our last option for the role was David Franklin. He is manly and is older than our female actress. He looks much older than Mike and this is why he would be best for the role. We need someone who looks old enough to be a young dad. The female audience will find him attractive therefore they will want to continue with this film. David is not camera shy therefore we can get him to do anything without him being scared. Also David attends the same school as us therefore it will be easy to film.

Female Character Planning

 Our first option for who will play the main female role was Poppy Massey. This is because she is little and very delicate, which would make it more believable as to when she becomes depressed. She looks young another to be a young mother but also old enough to have had child. She is very pretty with lovely hair and big features. This will attract the male audience as they will find her attractive therefore this will encourage them too watch. She will also attract the female audience as they will feel sympathy for her as she is so little and cute. Poppy is shy which strangely would work well when filming her as the character she would be playing is meant to be quiet due to the fact her daughter has died.

Our next option for the role of Connie Williams was Demi Sims. This is because Demi is very attractive and again, like Poppy, will appeal to the male audience. Unlike Poppy though, Demi is very tall and this may not be as effective as she will look more grown up, and possibly would not get the sympathy from the public. Demi does not like being filmed and this is where we will have a problem.

Our last option for the main role was Demi Cato. This is because, like all the other girls, Demi is stunning. This will make the female audience be envious of her looks but also love her. Demi is not afraid of acting as she loves drama. This could work very well as we know that she would do anything that we asked her to, but this could also not work as she is quite loud and our main character is not.

Font Research

We searched into 'Scary Fonts' and found some styles that we really liked. We chose a selection of these to pick from. The idea that we was going for was that the font had to look like it had been written in blood. This is why we chose the colour red. We also picked various fonts which looked like it was dripping or had been splattered. The second idea was that it was very childish writing as the mental state of our main character will be very young.

 The first one we picked fitted our criteria as it looks as if the blood is dripping. However it did not look like childish writing therefore this was not going to be the font we would use in our film.

 The second font we chose did look almost childish as it is scruffy by wasn't very clear that it was blood so this again was not our favourite.

 The third font fitted both ideas as it looked childish, using a backwards 'e' made it look as if a small child who may not be able to write properly has done it. It also looked as if it has been written in blood as it is scruffy and double lined. This was going to be our potential font.

 Our last choice of font definitely looked like blood as splatters of it are around the font but unfortunately it looked more computerized than real life.

Horror/Thriller Conventions

A thriller can be partitioned into many sections. There is crime-thriller, mystery-thriller and action thriller. This genre uses a wide range of devices in order to create different effects upon the audience. A well known device would be creating tension and suspense as a way of building up exhilaration. Thriller has a lot in common with Horror, with it's two main sub-genres being horror-thrillers and psychological thrillers.
A typical setting would usually be a eerie and isolated location.

Here are a few characteristics which define a thriller. I found these by researching:
- A sudden plot twist is a way of keeping the audience engaged
- The narrative is complex and has misleading clues and pieces of evidence.
- The audience is kept in suspense and is always unsure as to what is going to happen next.
- It is fast paced with a lot of action.
- Some have a sense of supernatural.
- Some can be scientific or medial.
- Some are mysteries with clever horrific or terrifying antagonists.
- A dark and isolated location is often used. This creates the impression that the protagonist is alone.

The editing is a significant component of the thriller genre. The sound has a profound effect for the audience. There is always dramatic music playing within a particular scene as it adds to the tension.

Hazard:

1. Falling into the lake outside demi's house - shooting a shot outside her house and filming a long shot going near the lake and slipping into it; median risk because you wouldn't necessarily go that far to get a long shot
2. Falling down the stairs - when shooting you may lose track of steps; low risk because I know how many steps are in the house and I am familiar of the stairs; I will practice the shots and be careful of going down the stairs.
3. Falling through the ceiling - when the actor is in the loft it is possible they good fall through ceiling; I will make sure that the actor is standing on a secure place when shooting.
4. Slipping on the floor - if there is any water on the floor; make sure that the drinks are put away.
5. Tripping on the wires; put all the wires away so they dont trip on anything and hurt themsleves

Therapist:

Connie Williams age 13, multiple personality disorder, no progress since we found her and still remains to constantly talk about Charlotte.

[whilst talking about Charlotte Connie looks up showing her possessed eyes and pounce aggressively on the camera towards Dr. Hardy].

Exit to title sequence 

Ext.       The outside of her new house Connie and her dad are about to move in.

Mum

Connie hurry up and bring cookie in and ill show you your new room.

[Connie's dad walking up to the stairs to the loft to find something for Connie, the camera will be acting as the doll so the audience will not know what this object is, he gets it and brings it down to Connie's room]

Music

We have chosen this music to be played at the beginning of the film to introduce the titles and in the background of the home video of the child. This will clearly show the audience what our genre is, and create the sense of a paranormal film. It creates a sense of creepiness while the home video is playing. 

Characters

• Poppy Massey as Connie Williams, our main character. She will play the part of the wife of David's. As a young mum she lost her child and this destroyed her life, she is very quiet as they are moving for a new beginning. 

• Demi Sims as the Nurse. You do not actually get to see Demi's face but we hear her voice at the beginning, explaining to us Connie's (Poppy) mental state.

• Dave Franklin as the Husband. Dave is Poppy's husband, the father of the child who died. He is very supportive of Connie (Poppy) and helps her through the death but does become extremely worried of her when she attaches to the doll.                                                                                                   

• Doll as Charlotte 

Outfits

In the beginning of our opening scene, Connie ( Poppy Massey ) will be wearing a hospital gown. This is because she will be currently in a mental institute therefore her outfit is vital to the film.

Make Up

We have decided to do Poppy's make up like this as we feel this is an effective way to do the characters make up as it shows clearly the mentality state of the child.

When finishing our storyboard, as a group we decided that in fact we did not want to make our first 6 shots in that way. After a much careful thought procedure we changed completely what will happen. We believe that this way will give us a higher grade and entertain our audience more.
